Join Pacific Northwest poet Mischa Willett at Village Books for a reading from his new collection, This Gift Card Has Already Been Redeemed, published by Paraclete Press.
Rooted in the literary life of the Northwest, Willett has spent much of his career writing and teaching in Washington and now directs the Whitworth Writers Workshop in Spokane. His new poems range widely—from art and faith to traffic, weather, memory, disappointment, and the strange comedy of ordinary life—combining formal play, lyric intensity, and an abiding attention to the world close at hand.
The collection has been praised for its range of voices and its mingling of the contemplative and conversational. Northwest poet Scott Cairns calls attention to Willett’s “wit, wordplay, and wisdom” and to the “deep and grounding ison note of joy” running beneath the book’s heartbreak, elation, disappointment, and consolation.
